Jesus, God with Us

Jesus, God With Us

“Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given…” (Isa. 9:6a)

Our culture is becoming more and more secularized. There are forces at work today that would like to take anything religious (that is, as long as it has to do with Jesus and Christianity) out of the public square. All other “religious” expression is allowed.  Well, I would like to take this opportunity to make a Christmas Declaration!

Christmas is the celebration that God is with us!

When the prophet Isaiah boldly declared this prophecy, he told of the birth of Messiah! This was not the birth of just any religious leader. It was not the birth of a “good man” who went around trying to help people. This was a declaration that Messiah would be born into this world! That means that GOD was coming into the world to save His people and all who believe in Him. More specifically, as this scripture implies, the announcement of the birth of Messiah was the announcement that the God-Man was coming to be among us!

Yes. Jesus the child…This means that He would have human form. He would be born of a virgin, as the scriptures prophesied, into the human race. And also, Jesus the Son…This points to His Divine nature. He was the Eternal Son of God coming into the world. Messiah is God Himself in Human form; the GOD-MAN!

No other religious leader could make this claim. No other religion can make this claim. Only Christianity, growing out of Old Testament Judaism can claim that Messiah has come! No other religion has a Messiah! There’s only ONE! This is what sets Christianity apart from every other world religion. The Messiah promised in the Old Testament has appeared in the New Testament era! All other “messiahs” are false; all other religious views that don’t acknowledge Him are also false.

For Jesus to be Messiah, He had to be God. For us to be able to identify with Him and Him with us, He had to be man. Hence, Jesus is the God-Man, the Messiah; fully God and fully Man. It is because of this that ONLY HE can be the savior of all mankind.

So, as we celebrate Christmas, we can do so TRULY as long as we recognize that Jesus, the Messiah, coming into this world as a babe is the ONLY MESSIAH! There is no other Name given under heaven whereby we must be saved. (Acts. 4:12)

May the joy of knowing Jesus the Messiah bless you and your family this Christmas Season. A very Merry and Blessed Christmas to you all.

In Christ,

Pastor Damian

Thankfulness

“THANKFULNESS”

“…And always be thankful.” (Col. 3:15c)

November is the month in which we celebrate Thanksgiving. I know it is a great time for getting together with family, renewing acquaintances, and seeing how big the children have grown. It’s a time to be thankful for all the good things we enjoy. But, do we ever think about that first Thanksgiving?

The pilgrims came to this country to escape religious persecution in England. Those brave, courageous families that came to this country did so at great personal cost and expense. They first escaped to Holland from England, many leaving their wives and children behind; not knowing whether they would ever see them again! They travelled across the sea in two ships, The Mayflower and the Speedwell. The Speedwell kept leaking and was forced to return to port twice. The Mayflower continued alone. Of the 102 passengers aboard the Mayflower, only 53 survived.

They arrived with NOTHING. They had to build the houses their families would live in; learn to raise their own crops and livestock; establish a self-governing colony organized to be law-abiding and efficient – Why? What made them make such a sacrifice? What made them leave everything behind? They were seeking a place where they could worship God freely!

Imagine them standing to say grace at that first Thanksgiving. Yes, they experienced loss; personal and financial. They experienced pain; loved ones had died. BUT THEY WERE THANKFUL! They had their FAITH. They had FREEDOM to express it and train up their children in it! …and they were thankful.

What do you have to be thankful about this Season?

Sometimes we have difficulty being thankful in the midst of problems and challenges. When we experience pain, we have difficulty being thankful. Usually, we are thankful when almost everything in our lives is, at least, OK. The Pilgrims were thankful REGARDLESS of the hardships and pain they experienced. Can we be thankful as well? Are we free to worship? So far, yes. Let’s be thankful. Do we have family and loved ones around us? Let’s be thankful. Do we have strength to seek employment? Let’s be thankful for that.

Our verse tells us to be thankful. However, thankfulness flows from a heart where peace dwells. Peace dwells in a heart where the presence of Christ abides. That enables us to live in peace, no matter what the circumstances. As a result, we can always be thankful.

Is This True?

“Is This True?”

“And where two or more are gathered together in My Name, I will be there…”  Matthew 18:20

I would like to ask you to meditate on this verse. Do you think Jesus was speaking figuratively or literally? Of course, He was speaking LITERALLY! That means that whenever two or more disciples gather together in the Name of Jesus (ie: to worship Him and fellowship together) HE WILL BE PRESENT WITH THEM!  This is the key to the entire New Testament Believer’s experience. THE PRESENCE OF GOD LIVING IN AND WITH US!!

Think of it, we can get together with friends, family, coworkers and associates. Jesus never promises to be present in those settings. However, when we gather for HIM, He promises to be there. Can you imagine that? Jesus Himself, PRESENT with His worshiping disciples!! An in His presence, there is fullness of Joy; there is peace and healing; love and power – all for us to experience! This is why we are changed after spending time in the presence of Jesus!

All the foregoing begs a very serious question. “Why would anyone ever want to miss that experience?” What activity can we do that trumps the presence of the Creator of the Universe and all that is in it? Beloved, last month I wrote about the fact that the Lord is seeking true worshippers. He is! Whenever He finds them gathered, HE COMES AND MAKES HIS PRESENCE KNOWN AMONG THEM! This is what makes Born Again believers exceptional! This is what makes us a “chosen generation; a royal priesthood; a peculiar people…”!

I would like to challenge you this month to be present every time we come together at Lighthouse. We are gathering for HIM! He’s the reason why we are in existence. We don’t come for a sermon, a friend, comfort or anything else. These things may be incorporated into our experience, BUT THE MAIN REASON WE GATHER IS FOR HIM AND HIS PRESENCE. Let’s examine our hearts; make some changes in our schedules and determine not to miss any opportunity to be in the Presence of our King!

May the Lord continually bless you and your family.

In Christ,

Pastor Damian
